Call of Duty 7 to get dedicated servers
http://www.mapmodnews.com/images/library/image/Call%20Of%20Duty_%20Black%20Ops%20/Call-of-Duty-Black-Ops.jpg
According reportedly leaked information from 'undisclosed Activisions sources' (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=240722), the PC version of Call Of Duty 7 will be getting dedicated servers.
The lack of dedicated servers in last year's Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 upset a small army of PC gamers. (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=225627)
According to Tek9's source, 'Call of Duty 7: Black Ops' will also feature the popular zombie mode from predecessor CoD: World At War, in which players get to shoot down hordes of the undead.
The site adds: 'Last but not least, dedicated servers will also be part of the new Call of Duty game, much to the delight of PC gamers across the world. After Activision fired Vince Zampella and Jason West from Infinity Ward, it seems like they are taking yet another step back from the direction they had taken with Modern Warfare 2 by re-adding dedicated servers."
Again, we'll check in with Activision to see what the publisher says...

I think they realise that making dedi's for MW2 now would be too little too late; besides, they have our money already! As for COD7 I would wait until it is guaranteed that we are getting dedi's before buying the game... pre-order maybe then cancel if we don't get what we want.

CoD: Black Ops Will Have Dedicated Servers, Controllable Vehicles
http://www.1up.com/media?id=3807962&type=lg
Infinity Ward spawned one of the bigger controversies in gaming last year when they announced the PC version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3170248) would use peer-to-peer matchmaking (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3176593) in lieu of traditional dedicated servers. That's a history that won't be repeating itself with Call of Duty: Black Ops (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3173532), though, as Treyarch president Mark Lamia has confirmed they're sticking with dedicated servers. "I think dedicated servers are excellent. I don't see any reason not to see them unless... well, I just don't see any reason not to," Lamia said to PC Zone magazine (via CVG (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=246438)). "It seems people like them and we're excited about what we're doing right now."
Even still, Lamia also said they're working on bringing some of the console matchmaking features to their dedicated servers, while maintaining the customizable nature of the dedicated server experience. "We do work very hard to reconcile the desire to manipulate and modify those dedicated servers with offering them the persistent experience and benefits that the console system provides," Lamia said. "We're working very hard to marry those two things, so people can run dedicated servers and also participate in the communal experience the console players get to have, given they're all on first-party servers."
Meanwhile, CVG also reports (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=246541) that a new Black Ops preview in the Official Xbox Magazine reveals the game won't just have vehicles the player rides in, but can control entirely. This apparently includes the SR-71 Blackbird we've previously heard about (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3179235) (and which was previously unclear whether it was entirely in the player's control or not), as well as helicopters that the mag "stresses" are fully controllable, which will even provide helicopter-vs-hellicopter air battles.
Call of Duty: Black Ops is launching on the PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii on November 9.
SR-71 Blackbird my favorite plane of all time, this game looks like its going to be mint :)
Looking foward to it....though MoH is out just before isn't it?

Looks like they have noticed that a lot of people moved to battlefield and have started to add the use of the vehicles and stay with proper dedi servers like we had in the past. Seems treyarch have got there ears to the ground and trying to out wit infinate ward.

Treyarch advised by Cold War vets for Black Ops
http://www.thatvideogameblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/call-of-duty-black-ops-logo.jpg
Call of Duty: Black Ops (http://www.thatvideogameblog.com/tag/call-of-duty-black-ops/) won’t be a shot in the dark in terms of Cold War authenticity as Treyarch is getting expert advice from both the American and Russian perspectives.
The team’s research was made in part by two individuals including Major John Plaster, a former member of black operations unit led by the CIA around the time of the Vietnam War, and Sonny Pzikas, a former special forces operative for the Soviet Union. Both men had recounted their missions to inspire the upcoming Cold War shooter.
“We do our research, which are our inspirations, and we strive for authenticity,” Treyarch studio boss Mark Lamia told USA Today (http://content.usatoday.com/communities/gamehunters/post/2010/05/more-on-call-of-duty-black-ops-with-treyarch-studio-head-mark-lamia/1) (via CVG (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=246120)). “But we create our fictions from looking at all of this. It was exciting for the team to do something that had not done before with Call of Duty.”
It wasn’t just a general recollection of a few missions either. The two vets would provide information on training, technique in combat and the equipment utilized on the front.
“[Plaster] was able to talk through his experiences during the Vietnam War era and the kind of, at the time, classified black operations that he was a part of. He talked about everything from his training to missions to tactics. He reviewed our characters, our weaponry. He was able to advise us on very practical matters.”
“[Sonny Puzikas] offered his advice and expertise on how Soviet special forces trained, the weaponry they used and what it was like to be in that force,” Lamia continued.
With the help of those who saw portions of the Cold War in action, Call of Duty: Black Ops should be shaping up to be a solid looking shooter, but we’ll know more when the full trailer (http://www.thatvideogameblog.com/2010/05/14/cod-black-ops-full-trailer-on-tuesday-teaser-now/) premieres next week.
